Film credits analysis (HALF-TERM HOMEWORK)

We are now looking at how film credits operate and how they serve to create the right mood for the opening of a film.

Things to consider:

  • What order do credits come in? Is it always the same? What does the order tell us about the relative importance of different people connected to the film?
  • How many people/institutions are listed? Is it always the same? Do some have more than others?
Watch the opening credits from FIVE different film genres to help you answer the questions above (put this as a post on your blog).

Then complete the film credits analysis table (below) and upload that to your blog as well.

Well done on the work you have done so far, I've been very impressed with your maturity, your creativity and your independence. Have a great half-term.

Preliminary Task: Analysis and Self-Reflection

Well done on completing your preliminary task! Make sure it is uploaded onto your blog. I now want you to evaluate what you have done.

Create a new blog post: 'Preliminary Task: Analysis and Self-Reflection'.

1. Give yourself a mark out of 10 for how effectively you employed the following skills:
  • shot/reverse-shot
  • match on action
  • the 180 degree rule
  • zoom
  • tilt
  • panning shot
  • handheld filming

Also, for each element, write an EXTENDED description of how you employed that technique, what it added to your film and how it affected the way your audience responded to that part of your film.

2. What lessons have you learned about filming during the preliminary process? What mistakes are you going to avoid when constructing your final film?

3. What lessons have you learned about editing during the preliminary process? What skills do you think are going to be most useful to you when editing your final film?

ONE KEY WAY TO IMPROVE YOUR WORK: Use screen shots from your preliminary task to act as examples of your analysis.

This has to be completed for our lesson on Thursday 23rd Oct.

Extended Preliminary Task

1. Create mood boards for the two characters in your Preliminary Task:

  • What personalities do they have?
  • What kind of things do they do/enjoy?
  • What is motivating them in the scene you have shot?
For a good example of what a character mood board looks like, look here: http://mediablogs.keshacademy.com/kashifzaman2/2012/11/06/mood-board

2. Storyboard where your story is going to go next. Techniques I want you to include:
  • panning shot
  • tilt
  • zoom
  • hand-held filming
Look up these terms on the internet and write definitions (including pictures and/or video footage) on your blogs.

All filming has to be completed by: Tuesday 14th October
